Pickles and Pinky's makes Leslie's weekend a perfect one There is no escaping Leslie. Now he's crossing county lines. On Saturday morning, the Austin icon in a thong bought Girl Scout cookies in front of a Food Mart on Texas 71 near Smithville, about 40 miles east of Austin. Leslie purchased two boxes of cookies -Thin Mints and Upside Downs- from Hollie Erickson, who teaches fourth grade in Smithville. Selling Girl Scout cookies to a bearded man in hose didn't seem to bother Erickson. "He was just like any other customer," she said. "He was polite, asked questions about the cookies and bought them." Erickson said she knew about Leslie from news reports. Leslie was on his way by charter bus with regulars from Katz's Deli in Austin to Katz's Deli in Houston for a fried-pickle-eating contest. Marc Katz, the deli owner, gave Leslie a $45 ticket after holding an essay contest in which participants were invited to say in one word or less whether Leslie should be allowed on the bus. "One guy voted yes; one guy voted, "Who the (heck) is Leslie" Katz said. For the occasion, Leslie wore a black faux fur coat with matching hat, a black mini and spiked heels. It was a whirlwind weekend for Leslie. On Sunday, he appeared in a pink bikini in a $30,000 30 second Super Bowl commercial for Pinky's Wireless Leslie was paid $250 and given a pink pager with a year of air time for his appearance, said John LaTouf, one of Pinky's co-owners. Leslie brought the pager on the bus trip. When others on the charter bus found out the number on Leslie's pager, they kept calling it on their cell phones. Leslie finally figured out the prank and turned off the pager. On the way to Houston, Leslie and others on the bus watched a Three Stooges video.
