| Here is our second camp on river left immediately before Rabbit Ears at mile 791. The big camp across the river was already taken by a large group. One of their members looked a lot like a famous Austin citizen- Leslie, the homeless transvestite. This guy was paddling Boquillas canyon with a full beard and wearing nothing but a thong. Fortunately, having seen Leslie a few times, our girls were not shocked. They could tell this guy was not nearly as style-conscious as Leslie, who usually wears a lot of leaopard skin patterns. Anyway, this camp was not as Terra Firma as the first one, and had only just enough room for a decent kitchen, and two tent sites, both with some slope. From a distance, it looked plenty big with lots of room, and in a week or two it'll probably be fine, but at this point it was VERY soft, and your feet left 2-inch depressions in most places. We did get to see some ravens and a smaller bird harassing a red tailed hawk above our site. that was kinda neat. ->Next |
