| According to the folks who run the park, during the last ice age, the western and eastern North American forests met in Texas, and as the weather warmed and dried up, the maples receeded toward both coasts. Lost Maples just happened to have deep cool canyons and enough water that the maples have clung to this little area until today. Incidentally, the Lost Pines of bastrop State park have a similar story. You have to travel hundreds of miles to find other native maples and pines. ->Next |
